Stephen Randall has more than 40 years of experience in chemical engineering, energy research, environmental testing and carbon management. After graduating as a chemical engineer, he started as a process engineer at an alumina plant, where he was responsible for studying the plant’s energy consumption and designing and implementing a number of energy-saving measures. Subsequently, he devoted more time to research, within the framework of the development of absorption heat pumps and solid oxide fuel cells. After taking time off to earn a master’s degree in environmental science, he spent 15 years working for international environmental consulting firms as an environmental auditor and carbon management consultant. He has been working as a freelance consultant since 2007. His work in this regard included, technical due diligence, and preparation of registration for CDM projects, as well as development and review of greenhouse gas inventories. With respect to the EU ETS, he has worked with industry associations on the development of emissions benchmarks and provided consulting services to the European Union Commission on the evaluation of free allocations for ETS Phase 3 and 4.
