Validation of the program for CO2 sequestration through humus formation
CO2-binding through humus formation by verico SCE,
December, 2022
Verico SCE has completed the validation of the program for the CO2 Sequestration through humus formation – by the project sponsor and owner, positerra GmbH Rosenheim, based on the requirements of ISO 14064-2 “Specification with project-level guidance for quantifying, monitoring and reporting GHG emission reductions or removals improvements“EU Directive 2015/652 and other regulations applicable to the GHG project to be validated.
To prepare the final validation report, verico SCE conducted desk reviews, background research, an on-site audit and an on-site visit to a project participant. As a result of the validation, it was determined that the humus premium program meets all relevant requirements of ISO 14064-2.
Ecosystem services projects with positerra
Healthy soils have an immense capacity to bind CO2 absorption and storage of water is improved and biodiversity on and in the soil is increased. To achieve this, positerra brings together two strong players: Farmers and companies. Companies want to offset their unavoidable emissions and act regionally. Farmers want to make their farms climate-resilient for the future.
Over a period of 10 years, the climate farmers commit themselves to humus-increasing cultivation according to the principles of regenerative agriculture. By taking soil samples at fixed intervals and through educational programs offered by positerra, they get to know their soils better and can implement suitable measures as required. Climate farmers and positerra are already building up humus on over 3,000 hectares in this way.
Humus is already being built up on 3,000 hectares of agricultural land in Germany through regenerative agriculture with positerra and the climate farmers.
